Okay. Here’s another big “So what!” but this time its really important. If you hate Vista as much as we at Certless do and you can’t stand having to download and install nearly 100 patches and hotfixes for every install, then look no further. Service Pack 3 for Windows XP is now available via Windows Update for those of you who like or must use Windows. Unfortunately, contrary to the statement that Bill Gates made a few years back about no longer including new features in service packs, SP3 includes new features. So, keep a watchful eye out for possible failure points and report in if you find anything bad (no, Windows itself doesn’t count).

I installed SP3 on my workstation without any issues at all. I was a tad concerned when the installer suggested that I back up everything before proceeding, but everything is already backed up anyway, so it wasn’t necessary. I then cloned and updated one of my core Windows XP SP2 virtual machines in VMware Workstation 6. That also went well. Once thing to note is that if you haven’t installed IE7, SP3 won’t add it. Sweet!
